The City of Tacoma, Public Works Department, Transportation Division, is recruiting a full-time position for a Target Zero Coordinator.
Position Profile:
The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for managing and developing resources to support the goals of the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC) along with the Statewide Target Zero Traffic Safety Task Force. This position is funded through an agreement with WTSC.
This position is responsible for traffic safety support and leading systemic Tacoma and Pierce County-wide planning and strategic collaboration. Work involves coordination with many local individuals, community agencies and resources, as well as regional, state, or national partners. The following are illustrative examples of essential functions of the job:
Conduct outreach and expand relationships to enhance the positive proactive traffic safety culture within the Pierce County region.
Expand and lead the number of organizations and individuals within Pierce County focusing resources and expertise on traffic safety, Safe Systems, and leverage those resources to implement strategic plans designed to reduce traffic crashes.
Develop community assessments to help identify the most important partners and traffic safety issues in the region and use them to develop community traffic safety plans to improve the region¡¦s traffic safety culture.
Ensure that the Target Zero Task Force is knowledgeable of all grant resources (federal, state, and private) available to it and coordinate grant funded projects to achieve Task Force goals and objectives.
Negotiate and establish contracts with grantees or sub-awardees, monitor contracts for compliance and disbursement of grant funds.
Conduct and/or oversee reporting processes, including reporting on outcomes and progress to a variety of diverse key stakeholders.
Find opportunities to collaborate with Tacoma and Pierce County on their Vision Zero initiatives.
Maintain and update website, social media, and other project communication methods.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Depending on the assignment, the following are the essential duties for the Target Zero Coordinator (Transportation Services Analyst):
Collaborates and coordinates with various agencies, organizations, and community partners to promote established transportation related projects, programs, and initiatives.
Plans and executes outreach events; develops and makes presentations to community groups, businesses and stakeholders; creates outreach materials.
Assists with grant application submittals; administers grants including managing related contracts.
Gathers and analyzes data to ensure projects, programs, and initiatives are achieving desired goals and to identify areas of improvement within the established guidelines.
Performs other work as assigned.
Division Overview:
This position is located within the Transportation Division of the Public Works Department. The mission of the Transportation Division is to support the City of Tacoma¡¦s goals through the fiscally and environmentally responsible planning, design, maintenance, and operation of transportation systems for everyone who lives, works, or plays in Tacoma. Our services enhance the community by improving the function of the multi-modal transportation network for all users.

The Transportation Division collaborates with a broad cross-section of disciplines within the City of Tacoma staff organization, City Council, Transportation Commission and other boards and commissions, and community stakeholders to establish and implement transportation plans and policies, such as the Transportation Master Plan, Safe Routes to School Action Plan, Vision Zero Action Plan, and the transportation elements of long-range planning documents. We work closely with local, county, and statewide partners to create a transportation system that is safe and accessible for all ages and abilities.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (TRAINING AND EDUCATION):
Bachelor's degree* in planning, public administration, public health or directly related field.
AND
Two (2) years experience in planning, community outreach, or public health.
*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
